Event Date
The Orange County Department of Education is excited and honored to welcome you to the Hmong History and Cultural Studies Conference on February 28 and March 1, 2025. The presentations featured in this conference will provide attendees with foundational knowledge to prepare them for the implementation of the Hmong History and Cultural Studies Model Curriculum in their schools, districts, and communities. At this event, K-12 educators will:
- Learn about the Hmong History and Cultural Studies Model Curriculum and companion resources
- Connect with educators, scholars, community members, and culture bearers, as well as relevant cultural practices and ways of knowing
- Participate in culturally immersive experiences in local communities
The Orange County Department of Education has worked with educators, scholars, and community members to develop this model curriculum, which comprises a collection of primary source documents, planning resources, teaching strategies, professional development activities, and over fifty lesson plans. The Hmong History and Cultural Studies Model Curriculum will assist educators in teaching about the histories, cultures, traditions and refugee experiences of Hmong Americans.
Stipends are available for teachers from contracted districts.
