Area of Study 1: Framing the Vietnamese American Experiences

Vietnamese area of studies, a poster of student discussing some topic
Introduction

The Vietnamese American Experiences Model Curriculum (VAEMC) emerges from Assembly Bill 167, which calls for the development of model curricula relating to Vietnamese American refugee experiences. VAEMC is the culmination of long-standing community organizing as well as the development of initiatives to institutionalize culturally meaningful and relevant curriculum, particularly about the Vietnam War and Southeast Asians who were involved. The VAEMC builds upon the vision of Senate Bill 895 and brings Assembly Bill 167 to fruition by providing a groundbreaking, comprehensive template of K–12 lessons about the Vietnam War and Vietnamese Americans.
