Cambodian Refugee-History, Process, and Implication

Students will learn why people seek refuge, understand what refugee camps are like and where they were for Cambodian refugees after 1975, grasp how resettlement impacts refugees and their places of refuge, and differentiate between asylum seekers and refugees.

Students will study the ongoing history of landmines and their use in Cambodia in order to measure the impact on the country and its citizens.

Ten Stages of Genocide - Cambodian Genocide Timeline Activity

HSS 10.9.8, RI.9-10.5, W.9-10.5

Change is driven by multiple causes, and results in multiple consequences. These create a complex web of interrelated short-term and long-term causes and consequences. Students will consider how the Cambodian Genocide evolved in relation to the 10 Stages of Genocide to see how each action led to short-term and long-term consequences.
