    Lesson Overview

This lesson introduces the Coast Miwok people, homelands, and cultural lifeways that connect to wellbeing practices. Students will participate in an activity that centers wellbeing and understanding of Coast Miwok lifeways.

This lesson is a brief introduction to Coast Miwok history and cultural lifeways.  There is much more depth to all the concepts and experiences introduced in this lesson.  Our worldview is similar to other tribes as our relationship to the places we are from is based on interconnectedness and reciprocal responsibility. Culture is essential to the continuing of lifeways. Although our traditional practices and ceremonies are similar among our neighboring tribes (the Ohlone, Pomo, Patwin and Wappo) they still are unique and specific to each of our tribal nations.

In addition to the downloadable lesson and student handouts, this lesson comprised of 1-2 class sessions (2 hours), includes interactive slides and lesson script/ facilitation support.
