Students will be able to evaluate the impacts of departure and resettlement experiences on Vietnamese Amerasians post-war by analyzing various sources and constructing proposed amendments.
Students will be able to identify and describe post-war communist policies regarding re-education, its connection to why Vietnamese refugees fled Vietnam, and explain how these policies affect the personal experiences of Vietnamese Americans by interacting with sources and creating a slide presentation.
Students will be able to connect themes of emotion to the separation and loss experienced by the Vietnamese refugee community through an analysis of music and a short response.
Students will be able to describe the challenges and hardships experienced by the Vietnamese people from life at the “re-education” camps by participating in a World Cafe discussion and completing a fictional journal entry.
Students will be able to describe the challenges and hardships experienced by the Vietnamese people trying to escape by boat by interacting with a variety of sources in a jigsaw activity and completing a reflection.
Students will compare and contrast the various refugee camps in Asia (Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Macau, Singapore, and Japan) by gathering notes from a variety of sources and sharing their understanding in a medium of choice.
Students will be able to reflect on and summarize the experiences of the boat journey for the second wave of Vietnamese refugees by participating in a graffiti activity and producing an exit ticket.
Students will be able to identify difficulties and obstacles faced by refugees at the refugee camps by analyzing sources and creating a medium of choice.
Students will be able to describe the life experiences of migrants along refugee camps (Clark Air Force Base, Philippines and Anderson Air Force Base, Guam) and evaluate the overall experience of the refugees in these base camps by completing a graphic organizer.
