Students will learn about Hmong clan structures and gender roles along with factors that shape people’s lives and their identities, such as the social structure of patriarchy (patrilocality/patrilineality).
Students will be able to understand the importance of intergenerational storytelling by listening and discussing with an elder family/community member. Students will analyze the significance of different family structure’s impact on historical understanding by comparing and contrasting traditional Hmong family structures with their own.
Students will discover how Hmong people have been able to retain their identity, language, culture, and beliefs despite being subjected to persecution and colonization, continuously throughout history.
